Thanks to Google Volunteers Today!
About 14 volunteers from Google spent the morning today helping around the shelter. They did a fantastic job freshening up parts of the front of the building. It looks a lot better and helps make a good first impression. A lot of effort was spent prepping for our Garage Sale. Our original plan was for the Googlers to price the items but they took it upon themselves to actually set up the whole Garage Sale. They took a random pile of boxes and items, and organized the items into categories, just like how you would want to see it at a garage sale. The van was given a good cleaning, which there is never any staff time to do. The can and bottle sorting operation had a lot of help and made a good dent in the backlog. There were some good ideas for improving the operations, identify the bottleneck and how to remedy it. Some of the time overlapped the volunteers from Opportunity Connections and everyone had a good time working together.
The Googlers were highly effective, hitting the projects efficiently and doing a great job. Their efforts made a visible improvement to Home At Last and we greatly appreciate their generous donation of time and effort.
